Top 3 Questions (And Answers) About Deploying Proxxi Voltage

Deploying safety technology is uncharted territory for many of Proxxi’s customers, and understandably they usually have some questions before they get started.

To help answer these questions that you might also have, we asked our team for the most common questions they recieve, and the answers to those questions.

What is the biggest challenge that you encounter when introducing the Proxxi Voltage wristband to a company?

The biggest challenge with introducing Proxxi Voltage to an organization is improper and untrained use of the wristband. The wristband is a tool, and just like any other tool, if you don’t know how to use it, you are likely to encounter avoidable challenges. For us, that means expectation management and ensuring that the wearers get appropriate training and specific use cases for when and when not to use the wristband.

Online training available

Proxxi offers trials before full deployment, in which we do live online onboarding sessions with all of your trial participants. This helps set their expectations and teach them how to use the product, but it also helps our customers understand how Voltage fits into their company culture and rhythm in a small, controlled pilot. Then, when they fully deploy, they already have champions among their employees.

For deployment, Proxxi also offers live in-person or live remote onboarding, allowing you to align with how your team best learns.

Doesn’t having a wearable alarm on their wrist lead to complacency among workers?

We actually find the opposite to be true. Technicians generally understand that they work in a risky environment, but once they are using Proxxi Voltage, we find they become more aware of their surroundings. They still follow the electrical safety process and perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), but they become cognizant of the risk of something changing.

Proxxi Voltage providers the wearer with real-time risk assessment. So whether there has been a failure in their own process, or there has been a change in the system such as undocumented work, remote controlled power or backfeed, they have a tool to make them aware of the risk prior to contact. The Voltage wristband acts like a spotter - always on, and always aware. It’s the last line of defense, meant to only come into play when multiple other steps have failed.

Safety warning on electrical panels

The idea that the presence of safety measures leads to more risky behavior is called “risk compensation”. Research shows that although this idea is prevalent in society, there is very little evidence to support the theory of risk compensation, and in many cases this theory has been disproven. This means that adding additional safety measures does not lead to individuals engaging in more risky behaviors.

Won’t the Proxxi Voltage cause a bunch of false alarms and distract or annoy the worker?

Proxxi Voltage has adjustable settings and the ability to mute alerts, allowing users to change the alerts to match their environment, or silence alerts when they are not performing electrical work. This flexibility in settings helps prevent nuisance alerts.

If the environment is well designed and laid out then the wristband will only alert to those things the chosen setting deems a risk. Modern infrastructure is typically well grounded and shielded which creates an ideal environment for the Proxxi Voltage to alert the electrician or technician to unexpected electrical sources.
